4WD Servicing and Upgrades

Welcome back to Mechanical Mums!! It has been a moment (or two!). Lets start back with something that’s a bit of fun. Who out there has a 4WD or a partner who has one? One thing here in Perth that seems to have exploded over the COVID lockdowns is 4WD’s and their accessories. Due to the lockdowns, people in WA took to travelling around the state, thus requiring the fit-out of their vehicles to make them roadworthy and comfortable for the long (long) drives.

On a more serious note, here are a few 4WD & Offroad questions the friendly team at Schneider Mechanical & Tyre Centre get asked quite frequently.

How often should a 4WD be serviced?

Schneider Mechanical & Tyre Centre recommends you service your four wheel drive every 6 months or 10 000 Km.

Is there a difference between a 4WD service and a normal car service?

Yes - there is a longer labour charge as there are more components that need to be serviced.

Should I continue to drive my vehicle if the service 4WD light is on?

Ideally not, but you can't always get in for a service straight away, check the oil and water levels at a minimum.

I don't go off road, do I still need a 4WD service?

Yes - they are all still working parts to the vehicle.

Does it cost more to service a 4WD vehicle?

Yes - they often take more oil and tend to have a longer labour charge than standard vehicles.

Do you do lift kits for or suspension modifications for 4WD vehicles?

Yes we Schneider Mechanical & Tyre Centre do lift kits for or suspension modifications for 4WD vehicles - and we love to do them!

What other 4WD accessories can you fit to my vehicle?

The list is endless - but some of the 4WD accessories Schneider Mechanical & Tyre Centre can fit to your vehicle include mirrors, compressors, dual batteries, lift kits, air bag suspension, spot lights, bar lights, draws. Ask us about it next time you book in for a 4WD service.

Do you offer any other services or repair jobs not normally part of a 4WD service?

Yes - Schneider Mechanical & Tyre Centre offer all mechanical repairs and also perform a lot of auto electrical work.

How long does a 4WD service take?

It can vary but we generally find it to be approximately 1.5 hours.

How much will a 4WD service cost?

Again it can vary but we generally find on average between $350 and $400

How can I pay for my 4WD service?

Schneider Mechanical & Tyre Centre accepts credit cards and cash

When are you open?

Monday- Friday 7am- 5.30pm

Can I drop off my Four Wheel Drive Vehicle after hours?

Yes - You can drop off your vehicle to our Dianella workshop if arranged beforehand.

Can I collect my 4WD after hours?

Yes - you can collect your four wheel drive vehicle after hours as long as it is paid for over the phone and arranged before we close.

Will you give me a reminder when my next 4WD service is due?

Schneider Mechanical & Tyre Centre send out reminders every 6 months.

How do I book my 4X4 in for a service?

The best way to book a service is to give us a call to discuss your requirements.

What happens if something is not right after the service?

Then all you have to do is give us a call and we will sort it out. Schneider Mechanical & Tyre Centre take great pride in all of our work, but if something doesn't seem quite right then just let us know. We are happy to sort out any problems you might have. Plus you have the added assurance of our Repco Nationwide Warranty if you find yourself out of town.
